Large Group Games
1. Scavenger Hunt
On a sunny day, divide your team into groups and organize a scavenger hunt in the city. You can create the hunt yourself or use services like The Go Game or Stray Boots for more creative challenges. This outdoor activity will refresh and energize your team. Don't forget to capture silly moments with pictures and have a slideshow at the end. Another alternative is to try a "Random Acts of Kindness" scavenger hunt, such as Outback Team Building & Training's activity. Teams download the app and complete a series of challenges to help strangers in the community.

2. What’s My Name?

To play the game called What's My Name, each player is given the name of a person, alive or dead, written on an index card or Post-it note. The name is displayed on the player's back, head, or some part of their body that only other players can see. Once everyone has their assigned name, players mingle and interact with each other, treating their colleagues as they would treat the person listed on their card. Players can also ask questions about their own hidden identity until they guess correctly. The game has no complex rules or competitive aspect, but is an empathy-building exercise that fosters good company culture by giving employees a taste of what it's like to be treated like someone very different from themselves. It's a game that can be played with a large group of people and has the potential to be a lot of fun.

3. Cook-Off
This is a cooking-based team-building activity that could result in either success or failure in a light-hearted manner. Working together to create new dishes requires teamwork, leadership skills, and creativity. To begin, divide your team into smaller groups and choose a food category, challenging each team to create a delicious dish. The food category can range from ice cream to salsa to pizza. To make the challenge more interesting, you can add a twist, such as requiring all teams to use a specific ingredient, like maple syrup or Oreos. Another option is to challenge each team to create their food in a unique shape, such as turning pizzas into different shapes.

4. Sneak a Peek
Sneak a Peek is a game that combines memory and Pictionary to create a unique team-building activity. To play, groups of at least four people are formed and take turns recreating objects from memory. The game leader will create an object or structure using LEGOs, clay, or building blocks for each group to recreate. One member of each group has 10 seconds to "sneak a peek" at the object before returning to their group to describe what they saw so that their team members can recreate it using their own set of building materials. If the structure is not complete after a minute of recreation, another member of the group will have a chance to take a peek and provide further instruction. The objective is for the group to be the first to successfully recreate the object.

Playing Sneak a Peek allows employees to practice project management skills and learn how to complete tasks with input from different sources. It is also an enjoyable way to see how well coworkers can remember information.

5. Board Game Tournament
If you want to encourage a bit of friendly competition among your team members but can't leave the office, consider organizing a board game tournament. To make it more manageable for larger teams, choose a single game and have participants sign up for specific time slots when they're available to play. Popular games with reasonable play times include Jenga, Boggle, or even card games. Be sure to offer prizes for the top three winners to add an extra level of excitement.

6. Office Trivia
Who says that trivia night has to be limited to the bar? Office trivia can be a great way to bring together a large group of colleagues and challenge them in areas that may not be related to their daily work. You can divide the company into teams of four or more and offer prizes to the teams that earn the most points. If you want to create your own trivia questions, you can sort them into categories with four or five questions per category, and offer bonus questions at the end of the game. You can assign each team a certain number of points per category to bet on, or you can assign a point value to each question. Each team can bet as many or as few points as they want per question until they've used up all their points for that category. If you don't want to create your own trivia questions, you can hire a trivia company to host a trivia night at your office. There are many national trivia companies, such as District Trivia, The Trivia Factory, and the Big Quiz Thing, that would be happy to host an event on site.

Small Group Activities

7. Improv Workshop
Comedy and improvisational events can be enjoyable and engaging for employees, providing opportunities to develop important communication and soft skills such as focus and trust. Depending on your budget, you can choose to either conduct simple improv games with your employees or bring in experts to facilitate competitive and high-energy activities. These events can bring laughter and a sense of fun to your workplace.

8. Two Truths and a Lie
Although commonly played at house parties, Two Truths and a Lie can also serve as a great icebreaker when bringing together coworkers who are unfamiliar with each other. To play, gather everyone in a circle and provide each person an opportunity to introduce themselves. In addition to their name, each employee should share three pieces of information about themselves, but only two should be true. The rest of the group must then determine which of the three statements is false.

9. Karaoke Night
Hosting a karaoke session is an excellent approach to encourage your employees to become more outgoing. You might even hold a contest to determine the best group karaoke performance, with extra credit given if there are feather boas and cowboy hats involved. However, this activity is most appropriate for a team that is comfortable with being more extroverted. If your team is hesitant about performing on stage, you may want to consider one of the other ideas on this list that is better suited to their personalities.

10. The "Suddenly" Story
If you have ever shared stories by the campfire, you may be familiar with a version of The "Suddenly" Story. This team-building exercise resembles a choose-your-own-adventure book. It entails collaborating with your coworkers' (often amusing) imaginations to create a story rather than simply telling one.
To play The "Suddenly" Story, have your team form a circle, and provide the first three sentences of a tale on any subject. Once those three sentences are complete, say "Suddenly..." and pass the story to the person next to you. They must use your three sentences to add to the story with another three sentences, followed by "Suddenly...". Each occurrence of "Suddenly" allows the story to take a different direction, as determined by the next person in the circle.

The "Suddenly" Story exercise encourages individuals to build upon previous content while also being inventive when everyone is paying attention to them. Try it out the next time you want to gather your department for a break, and you're certain to elicit laughter from everyone involved.

11. Go-Kart Racing
Introducing a little healthy competition can foster camaraderie within a group. One way to achieve this is through an exhilarating activity such as kart racing, which can bring employees together in a novel and enjoyable way. However, it's important to ensure that everyone pays attention to the safety instructions beforehand.

12. Concentration

Concentration, a game show that originated in the 1960s, has been given a professional twist. The game involved 30 numbered tiles on a board, each with an identical tile somewhere else on the board. These tiles had matching prizes on the back, and contestants would try to match them up to win the prize. Businesses, particularly marketing departments, can use this game to their advantage by putting logos, slogans, and company names on the back of the tiles. As the company grows, they can even include the names of their products, employees, and job titles to test how well their colleagues know the company. This activity can be a fun way to engage employees in a corporate setting.

13. Professional Development Workshop
Encouraging employees to bond and learn simultaneously can be achieved through a shared learning experience, either on-site or at an off-site workshop or conference. This activity can be tailored to specifically address your employees' jobs or encompass broader topics like negotiation or leadership skills.

14. Jigsaw Puzzle Race

Solving jigsaw puzzles alone can be a boring activity that requires a lot of patience. However, when you have a team of bright and talented colleagues working on it together, it becomes an exciting and engaging problem-solving challenge. By dividing your company into teams and having a multi-puzzle race, you can turn this into a thrilling team-building activity that energizes the entire office. To make it a competition, get multiple copies of the same jigsaw puzzle and offer prizes for the first team to complete it. Just make sure each team has the same number of members and choose a puzzle size that is suitable for the size of the team. A 1000-piece puzzle might be too time-consuming for a small team of five or six people.

15. Room Escape Games
Room escape games have become a popular team-building exercise worldwide, requiring leadership skills, teamwork, logic, and patience. In these games, a group of people are "locked" in a room for an hour and must find hidden objects, solve puzzles, and decipher clues to locate the key that will unlock the door. However, it's not an easy task, and only 20% of players manage to escape before the hour is up.

If you're not sure how to convert your office space into an escape room, you can always hire a service to do it for you.

 16. The Egg Drop Challenge

The Egg Drop Challenge is a team-building activity that you may have played during your school or summer camp days. In this activity, teams are tasked with building structures around an uncooked egg to protect it from breaking after a high fall onto a hard surface. Each team is provided with a set of specific items such as straws, newspaper, tape, and cardboard to build their structure with, and they can use nothing else. To make the challenge more difficult for your coworkers, you can allow them to use only the items available in the office. You can also set the height of the fall according to the materials that each team has to work with.

17. Laser Tag
Another excellent way to get your team excited and energized is by playing laser tag. In addition to being a fun activity, it's a chance for your colleagues to showcase their strategic, logical, and teamwork abilities. As an added bonus, you can assign teams in advance and encourage people to dress up for the occasion.

18. Catch Phrase

In the popular game Catch Phrase, players form teams and take turns describing words or phrases to their teammates without saying the actual word or phrase. The phrases can range from celebrities and expressions to everyday items found in a house. For example, if the phrase is "needle in a haystack," the clue given to teammates could be "a pointy object buried inside farm equipment." This game can help employees develop their communication skills while enjoying themselves. Hasbro has even created an electronic version of the game due to its widespread popularity.

19. Volunteer
Allocating time to support a noble cause can provide benefits beyond just a positive feeling; it can also foster camaraderie among your team members. There are two types of volunteering options to consider: place-based and skill-based volunteering. Place-based volunteering involves activities like serving meals at a local soup kitchen, assisting in building a Habitat for Humanity house, or delivering presents to kids' hospitals during the festive season. Skill-based volunteering, on the other hand, allows your team to leverage their professional skills, such as marketing, app development, or writing, to help a non-profit organization. You can explore volunteering opportunities online for both types of volunteering or opt for skill-based volunteering opportunities

20. Mystery Dinner
One popular game is the mystery dinner, where employees from different teams are sent to have dinner together at an undisclosed location in the city, which could also be someone's house. The dinner is hosted and paid for by the company leader, providing an opportunity for employees to socialize and have a good time. The twist is that participants only know the date and time of the dinner, and are informed of the restaurant and their dining companions via email on the day of the event. As an optional addition, hosts can be given the name of a restaurant or bar to invite everyone to gather at after the dinner.

21. Kayaking/Canoeing
Working together to stay afloat is a fun and effective team-building activity that also allows you to enjoy the great outdoors. Take advantage of the spring or summer season by grabbing a paddle and heading to the nearest river. Many public rivers and ponds have boat houses that offer kayak and canoe rentals. Encourage your team members to pair up with people they don't usually work with by renting multi-person watercraft.

22. Trampoline Park
Trampoline parks are not just for kids anymore! Take your team to one for some high-flying fun and a chance to de-stress. Many cities have local trampoline parks with various activities, such as trampoline dodgeball and basketball games. If you're in the Boston area, check out Skyzone for these activities and more.

23. Something Touristy
Encourage your team to explore their city by visiting a popular tourist spot together. You could even consider taking a Segway tour for a unique experience (fanny packs are optional!). It's a great opportunity to have fun and bond as a team while learning something new and gaining a new perspective on your city.

24. Painting Class
For a more low-key team-building activity, consider taking a group painting class. Local businesses such as Paint Nite offer classes hosted by artists at bars and venues throughout many major cities. Participants can paint on canvases or wine glasses while enjoying drinks and conversation, all while unleashing their creativity. It's a perfect way for team members to relax, bond, and have some fun.

25. Cooking Class
Looking for a unique team building activity? Consider taking a cooking class together! Instead of going to a regular bar or restaurant, hire a professional chef through a service like Kitchensurfing to come and cook a gourmet meal for you and your team right in your own kitchen. With multiple courses to enjoy and plenty of time to chat and bond over the delicious food, it's a great way to mix things up and try something new.

26. Explore a New Place
Venturing out of the city can be a great way to bond with your team. Consider organizing a day trip to a new location. For larger events, you could charter a bus to take your team to a new place. Once there, you could take a historical tour of the area, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, or visit a local attraction together. This can be done on a quarterly basis when you have more budget to allocate towards team outings.
